OUR LONDON HOME

Built in the late 1800s, our home in Islington, North London, is but moments from the bustling Regents canal. The canal, revived in recent years, goes underground for a mile at Angel before appearing again in the reinvigorated area of King's Cross. The house is grade 2 listed and is a perfect example of early Victorian architecture, which flows throughout this area. Renovated by Malcolm Fryer, an architect who specialises in houses of this genre, some interesting modern adaptations are incorporated, including a bathroom surrounded by exterior glass panels. A brave addition but one which fits harmoniously with the original features of the house. We share this wonderful home with our two cats Ash and Cinders, so-called because they spent the early months of their existence disappearing into the four fireplaces in the house! The house is well-equipped for entertaining, with a classic drawing room on the first floor and a formal dining room on the ground floor. The lower ground floor is given over to Hugo's studio, kitchen and an informal dining area which leads onto our tranquil terrace containing a Jacuzzi where we unwind all year round. Bedrooms and bathrooms are positioned on the first and second floors. Our favourite Farrow and Ball paints are used throughout.
Angel Islington is perfect for its easy proximity to the West End. It contains a plethora of excellent restaurants incorporating cuisines from every corner of the globe. The canal is perfect for long walks (which was a lifesaver in lockdown). The neighbourhood is international, including many Portuguese, French and Spanish.

Having put our mark on this special house we now intend to find a new home elsewhere in the UK. We will surely miss Angel, Islington but such is the life of "property migrants" as we now like to call ourselves.
